Discount Battery Type
There are three main types of batteries with which
cell phones come equipped. Knowing the differences among
them can help you estimate how much it will cost to
replace them and how long they will last.
Nickel Cadmium
This used to be the standard type of battery. Although
they are the least expensive to replace, they also offer
the least amount of talk time - roughly two and a half
hours, although this largely depends on the type of
phone and cellular carrier.
Nickel Metal Hydride
These batteries (you will see them referred to as NiMH)
are more expensive than nickel cadmium (NiCad), but
also have higher energy capacity, and hence have significantly
longer usage times.
Lithium-Ion
This type is the latest in battery technology, and is
used on most phones today. Again, this type is more
expensive to buy initially, but has the longest standby
and talk times at a fraction of the size. The recharge
time of this battery is only a couple of hours.
Other Features to Consider
Ringer
Most phones come with a multitude of ringer options
so you personalize your cell phone sound. Look for a
phone that also has a vibrate option for those times
when you want to be discreetly alerted of phone calls.
Some phones also feature a flashing light for the same
purpose.
For richer sound, look for a model with polyphonic
ring tones.
Alphanumeric Memory
Not many of us are great at remembering all of our contacts'
phone numbers, so a phone with sufficient memory can
be an asset. Simply key in your contacts' phone numbers
and names so that you don't have to memorize them. The
phonebook on some phones can store up to 500 phone numbers.
Caller ID
A cell phone with a screen that enables you to see who
is calling is convenient. Having your callers' names
and numbers displayed lets you screen calls and prioritize.
Call Conferencing
Whether for social purposes or a business meeting, the
ability to talk to all important parties involved can
be convenient and time-saving. Some phones come with
conferencing capabilities.
Multi-purpose Cell
Phones
Like most devices on today's market, cellular phones
are quickly being morphed into multi-purpose communication
devices. The things cell phones can do today would have
blown the socks off the earliest cell phone users.
Some of the options available on many of the cell phones
today include faxing capabilities, PIM (Personal Information
Manager), gaming abilities, even wireless Internet surfing.
Some models can even act as a wireless modem to connect
your notebook to the Internet. Choosing the right phone
is a personal matter. First, consider what you will
use your phone for. Someone who wants their phone to
act as a safety tool for emergencies would not choose
the same model as someone who will rely heavily on their
phone for work.
Keep in mind that fancier phones come with bigger price
tags. Shopping with your needs in mind will prevent
you from buying something that is unsatisfactory and
possibly more expensive than necessary. With so many
options to choose from in the cellular market, there
is truly something to suit everyone's needs.
